Teaser from Completely Whole

Lord, Still I Rise

“Five times I received from [the hands of] the Jews forty [lashes all] but one;
Three times I have been beaten with rods; once I was stoned. Three times I have been aboard a ship wrecked at sea; a [whole] night and a day I have spent [adrift] on the deep;
Many times on journeys, [exposed to] perils from rivers, perils from bandits, perils from [my own] nation, perils from the Gentiles, perils in the city, perils in the desert places, perils in the sea, perils from those posing as believers [but destitute of Christian knowledge and piety];(II Corinthians 11:24-28 AMP)

How do you see yourself? If all that you have encountered does not push, motivate, and drive you forward, you have failed your test. Your testimony may not be like Paul’s, but you do have one.

No one knows the magnitude of your pain and sorrows, but I’m convinced if you measured it up to Paul’s, it wouldn’t come close. However, only you and God know your story.

What Is Your Story?

I’ve been beaten, scorned and battered because they are intimidated… Still I Rise.
I’ve been labeled as common and ordinary, because you assume to know me… Still I Rise.
You crush my spirit and break my heart… Still I Rise.
Controlled by people… Still I Rise.
Homeless and sleeping in parks or where ever I could find shelter… Still I Rise.
Faced death by gun fire…Still I Rise.
Storm, rain, and floods… Still I Rise.
In debt, discouraged, and broke… Still I Rise.
Adversities come to wipe me out … Still I Rise.

The same Spirit that kept Paul rising in the midst of difficulty is the same Spirit that is holding you up. The Spirit of God is resistant to defeat and loss.

Still I Rise

Empowered to Prosper Welcomes: Author Jesse Cole

Welcome to Empowered to Prosper. Tell us a little about yourself

Q: Give us a short bio

A: I am the former Editorial Coordinator for Through It All Magazine and current CEO of King Cole Enterprises. I have been mentoring young people for over a decade and in 2002 was handpicked by Kids Across America (KAA) to be a Youth Counselor, Activities Instructor, Basketball Coach and Worship Leader for their outreach program in Golden, MO. Presently I am teaching in the metro-Detroit area and have the privilege of being the youth pastor at my home church.

Q: Please tell us the titles of your current book (s): And give a brief synopsis.

A: My first book was entitled, “Understanding Your Season: Removing The Frustration From Pursuing Your Destiny”. It was written as a reference to help us navigate through our seasons as we pursue our purpose and destiny. I am in the middle of writing two (2) more books as well. For the youth I plan on releasing, “Pur and Holy: The Teenagers Guide To Dealing With SEX, Relationships and Peer Pressure”, and one for adults, “Walking In Increase: Refusing To Take A Vow of Poverty.” In Pur and Holy, I take the conversational approach and coach them on how to use their gifts as a weapon against the wiles of the enemy. In Walking In Increase, I address the generational curses and churchy ideologies that have prevented us from fully experiencing the abundant life that Jesus reserved for us.

Q: What makes your books(s) stand out from the rest?

A: From the cover art to the content, the reader will see and experience excellence. The substance, relevance and charisma of the Word shines through and pulls the reader in and encourages them to be engaged in the process.

Q: What or who inspired you to become a writer?

A: When I was sixth grade I entered a Martin Luther King, Jr. essay writing contest. I had never been done anything like that before up until that point. I won the contest and that is when I figured out that I could actually inspire people with what I felt on the inside of me.

Q: When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published?

A: During college. I attended Bluefield College and was the only African American male in the Communications Dept. My creative writing teacher told us that we could write poetry and get it published. I knew I had a unique perspective on writing and life seeing that my experiences were not like that of my classmates. So I was eager to share my heart and those experiences and see them published.

Q: Do you come up with your title (s) before or after you write the manuscript (s)?

A: The book and chapter titles typically come to me before. I use them as a catalyst and search the scriptures to help rightly divide and validate the content.

Q: What is the genre you write? Tell us why you write the genre (s)

A: I would have to say that my genre for my last book was inspirational. As I get better at communicating these revelations, the genre could expand to beyond that. I feel like I have a gigantic treasure chest of gifts and I want to share them all.

Q: Tell us your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey?

A: Seeing my parents read my book. As a son, all you ever want from your parents is to be validated and respected. I feel like my first book showed them that I retained the Godly advice they had imparted to me over the years. The book was kind of like a manifestation of their hard work.

Q: Tell us your most negative experience in your publishing journey?

A: People who I thought would support me wanting to get my book for free and having an attitude when I tell them, “The book is $10. Thank you!”

Q: What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors?

A: Stay on your grind and be true to who God has called you to be. Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to people who have done it and don’t be discouraged if those same people seem to not have time to give you individual attention. They’re grinding just like you. Invest in yourself!

Q: Who is your favorite author?

A: At this point I don’t have a favorite author. I read everybody from Michael Holmes, Cedric Dukes, T.D. Jakes, Michael Baisden, Paulo Coelho and me.

Q: What Format (s) are your books in: Print Only.....E-Book Only....or Both?

A: Print and Ebook.

Q: What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?

A: I have several irons in the fire. I am releasing three audio teachings:

1.Young, Hungry and Ambitious: 3 Keys To Your Success
2.What Is That Smell?: How To Diffuse The Fragrance of Christ.
3.Pruned For A Purpose: Merging Agricultural Truths With Biblical Principles.

Also, I will be releasing my next book “Pur and Holy: The Teenagers Guide To Dealing With SEX, Relationships and Peer Pressure” in January.

Tell readers how to connect with you

Empowered to Prosper Welcomes: Korika L. Johnson

Q: Give us a short bio

A: I am a wife (16 years), mother, daughter, friend, founder and managing member of Toward The Mark Press, LLC. (a Christian publishing house), inspirational author, and lupus survivor.

In 2006, I was forced to leave my job with the DC Government because of illness. I subsequently turned to writing as an outlet of healing. Dedicated to a ministry of H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Endure), my desire is to encourage readers that God has purpose behind, presence during, and preservation after every storm that may come their way.

A living example of hope in the face of two chronic illnesses, I am committed to producing and sharing contemporary works that glorify God and impact lives – Giving Glory Through Stories of Hope!

I live in Maryland with my husband and our two daughters.

Q: Please tell us the titles of your current book (s): And give a brief synopsis.

A: My debut novel, which by the way was recently awarded Best Christian Novel by Christian Storyteller, is entitled Joy Comes in the Mourning. It’s an inspirational tale of faith, friendship, and forgiveness. The main character, Tonya Monroe, lost her mother at the hands of a drunk driver when she was only fourteen years old. That drunk driver just happened to have been her mother’s closest friend and the novel’s secondary character, Carolyn Wright. As the story opens Tonya is now 30, fine, and fierce! She has money in the bank, beauty, brains, and a body adored by men and envied by women. But she hasn’t had peace of mind since her mother’s death.

Carolyn, on the other hand, is at peace with her decision to put the past behind her. She refuses to live under the cloud of that terrible day. She is now saved, sanctified, and tired of Tonya holding her to her past…and everybody else dictating her future. It’s the story of two women whose lives are forever knitted together by tragedy, and their journey to weave a new pattern of trust in each other…and God.

Q: What makes your books(s) stand out from the rest?

A: I would say the fact that it’s so relatable, encouraging, and very informative. Who hasn’t had someone work their nerve like nobody’s business? Who hasn’t felt hopeless at some point? Who hasn’t desired to be loved unconditionally? Joy Comes also deals with the real life challenges and struggles of a lupus survivor. If you know nothing about the disease, get ready to be well-informed.

Q: What or who inspired you to become a writer?

A: Well, I’ve always loved to write. Read too. God gave me that desire. But after reading Victoria Christopher Murray’s Joy, I knew that writing was what I wanted to do professionally.

Q: When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published?

A: I always wanted to be a published author. One of my very first jobs was working in a mailroom. I received the Employee-of-the-Month honor several times. When I was interviewed for the company newsletter and they asked me where I saw myself in five years, I answered, “As a bestselling author!” I’m sure they expected my answer to be something about the company, but hey, I wanted to write! LOL!

:
Q: Do you come up with your title (s) before or after you write the manuscript (s)?

A: Definitely after for Joy Comes in the Mourning. The title was originally Testimony. I have other titles just waiting on me to finish the manuscripts.

Q: What is the genre you write? Tell us why you write the genre (s)

A: I write contemporary women’s/inspirational/Christian fiction because I truly believe that in this day and age, we all could use a little encouragement. And whether some of us know it or not, we all need a lot of Christ.

Q: Tell us your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey?

A: I would have to say connecting with other like-minded individuals. Meeting other authors and readers, whether in person or on one of the social networks.

Q: Tell us your most negative experience in your publishing journey?

A: I can honestly say that I can’t really remember any negative experiences.

Q: What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors?

A: Write! Practice makes…well, nobody’s perfect, but practice sure
makes for good writing.

Q: Who is your favorite author?

A: Etiquette says I should give the standard answer about all the authors I love, but right now I am really feeling Tiffany L. Warren’s work. I also love Victoria Christopher Murray’s writing.

Q: What Format (s) are your books in: Print Only.....E-Book Only....or Both?

A: Presently in print. The audio book is to come.

Q: What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?

A: I just recently created a format for my Blog (holdyourhope.blogspot.com). I am really excited about my interviews on Mondays with authors, poets, business owners, etc.). I have truly been blessed and encouraged by them and hope that the readers will be also. I’m looking forward to featuring you, Paulette.

In my upcoming novel, First Lady, Cheryl Davis loves her mother in-law dearly, but refuses to play second fiddle to her. Cheryl's family means everything to her and she will do whatever it takes to keep it intact. Even if it means devising a plan sure to win her husband Greg's affections. However, when Cheryl goes so far as to enlist the help of an unsuspecting, friendly neighbor to make Greg jealous, she gets far more than she bargained for.

Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness. - Proverbs 14:22

If you don't know the answer to that question, you will after reading First Lady.

John T. Wills, the publisher of the “The John T. Wills Chronicles”, is an effective communicator, Public Speaker, Educator, and Businessman. I have earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelors of Art in Business Administration as well. I have been a professor at Sojourner-Douglass College (HBC), Past Board Member of the Bowie State University Foundation, President of JT Wills Consulting, LLC, Past Vice President of the MD/DC Minority Supplier Development Council, one of the hosts of the Black Empowered Men Radio Show, producer of The Literary Book Tree Radio Show, author of “Just a Season”, a Journalist by way the Washington Examiner and as a blogging, supporter of several community organizations, a volunteer and friend to many.

Just a Season is a luminous story into the life of a man who, in the midst of pain and loss, journeys back in time to reexamine all the important people, circumstances, and intellectual fervor that contributed to the richness of his life. This fictional narrative begins with a grief-stricken father visiting the grave site of his beloved son who was killed in a tragic accident; a moment that he and no other loving parent should ever have to face. As he sadly gazes at his son’s headstone and reads what is inscribed there, the dates 1981 – 2001 bring about an illuminating discovery.

Praise for Just a Season . . .

“. . . Thank you for your example of tenderness and discipline in what I know is a story of love, delicately shared with readers in a way that says, this life, though brief, is significant. So hold it in highest regard for “the dash” is our legacy to love ones, indeed to the world, which we are blessed to share, albeit, for Just a Season.” Excellent! –Sistah Joy, Poet, Cable TV Host

“This is the stuff movies are made of… not since Roots have I read anything that so succinctly chronicles an African American story.” One Word phenomenal!!! Cheryl Vauls, Library Services
