About The Author

Perri Forrest is a California based author with close to twenty titles to her credit. A writer who becomes one with her characters, Perri has produced numerous outstanding titles including having reached number one in Interracial Romance, as well as African American Romance on the Amazon Best Sellers list. The fan favorite novel, Captivated was an international hit debuting at number two in Women’s Fiction for three consecutive weeks on the Amazon Best Sellers list in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Having studied psychology, Perri delves into the intrinsic elements that make her characters tick. She consistently creates strong female leads weaving in the complexities of fiction and real life. This dynamic writer, who has penned stories since a preteen, ensures that each novel is mixed with insight, passion and love. Having only professionally written for just shy of three years, Perri was nominated Best Romance Author of 2015 by Urban Books, Authors, and Writers of America (UBAWA). Perri’s was also nominated for 2016 Romance Author of the Year by African Americans on the Move Book Club (AAMBC).
An unintentional venture into blogging allowed Perri to express her raw emotion, break down her personal barriers and explore her gift of writing. Ultimately Perri’s blogs resulted in fans adoring her work and clamoring to read more. Writing quickly became her sole driving force, and her goal is to nurture the minds and hearts of the readers who trust her to feed their literary appetites.
When not creating her own captivating characters, Perri can be found enjoying a good suspense thriller. She credits the work of James Patterson and Lisa Unger as being among her favorites. She also loves playing Words with Friends, which has been a constant companion while writing the bulk of her literary works.

About The Book

“In the Ring” introduces Dario “DC” Caivano, heavyweight champion, who is also a man with a heavy heart. It isn’t without reason, however. As a teenager, Dario witnessed the murder of someone that he loved like a brother, and it took a lot out of him. It hardened him and left little to trust. Years have passed since the horrific crime, but it hasn’t gotten Dario any closer to being a man that can love . . . or be loved. In fact, he’s his best self when he’s in the ring where he can release his aggressions, if only for twelve rounds of “play”, to escape to a world where he can repeatedly annihilate the person responsible for his cousin’s death.
But what happens when he allows himself to come up for air?
Chanel Norwood is a single parent and club owner who is something like a “Boss”. She’s fiercely independent and knows exactly what she wants out of life, and right now it isn’t to be in an intimate relationship. She’s too busy taking care of business and raising a preteen son. After a failed relationship, Chanel has sworn off men—especially athletes. In her eyes, she’s already had one too many.
But how long can you fight fate?
When Dario and Chanel are thrown together, while the attraction is there, sparks don’t immediately fly. Both of them have lives and hearts that they’re very protective of. But as time goes on, they find there’s more to guard than just emotions when their worlds collide in a way that no one ever expected.
“In the Ring” is not without its share of secrets, drama, and ah-ha moments. Overall, it’s a story of love, loss, life and paths to new beginnings.

Welcome Perri, to Nothing But Books. Introduce yourself to our visitors.

I’m a single parent to a 19-year old Marine. I’m very proud of him and he is the very air that I breathe. I’m a Leo, so very outspoken, and very passionate. Sometimes those two things intersect and it can be pretty interesting. I’m loyal and very easy to get along with. However, I’m an observer and if our souls don’t mesh, I will not force anything. I write for life. It gives me life and I actually think that it has saved me from a whole lot so it’s like that best friend that I value wholeheartedly and can’t see my life without. I’m an avid reader, but with the volume that I produce and in the time that I produce it, I don’t find much time to read, but have vowed to change that soon.

Tell us about your book?

It’s interracial romance/fiction/drama and centers around a boxer (though I wouldn’t label it a sports book) and a single parent, who is all about work and her son. It’s a love story in that readers get to see them find their way to each other. Then that love gets interrupted and the question lingers of whether or not they’ll find their way back. There is the huge presence of family in this story, love lost and found, and new beginnings. It’s a story written from the heart and while there are two main characters, the co-stars bring a huge amount of flavor to the story as well.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

The most difficult aspect of writing this book would be that parts of it are taken from the emotion I felt around losing one of my brothers back in 2006. In my last semester of undergrad we lost him to a motorcycle accident. It happened on my birthday so has always stuck with me. Probably always will. He left with no children for us to love on and I’ve always dreamed of someone coming forth one day letting us know that he had this child that he didn’t know about. At least we’d have a piece of him here. The memories are good, but having a part of him, would be a dream come true. So, that was the difficult part about this book because I incorporated a lot of “what if” to it. Hopefully that makes sense.

Among all the books that you have read, which of these have significantly contributed to your writing style?

Jackie Collins and Shaneska Jackson. Jackie Collins impressed me at an early age when I read her book Chances. The way that she flawlessly wrote for multiple characters and had them jetsetting around the world and living these larger than life lives had me wanting to be inside the book. Her delivery was like nobody’s. Shaneska introduced me to my first urban fiction book, Caught up in the Rapture. The cover was ugly, but her skill was on point.

Just for fun

Coffee or tea? Celestial Seasonings Apple Cinnamon.

Lights on / lights off? Off

3 things you never leave home without? My cell. My Bluetooth. A tablet to write.

Sleep in or get up early? 6AM early.

3 celebrity crushes? Morris Chestnut. Nas Escobar. Colin Kaepernick.

Tell us something no person knows about you. Nah, there’s a reason they don’t know.

Any advice to give to aspiring writers?

Write. Write. Write. Form healthy alliances. Read as much as you can. Expand your vocabulary as much as you can. Beta readers are mandatory because you get the truth and not what you want to hear about your story. Make sure you are the first AND last eyes on your manuscript. Meaning do NOT rely on an editor to “fix” your work. It’s YOURS.

Any message to your followers?

Keep following. I’m always evolving and love having you on my journey!

Tell us what Hollywood actors would be the characters in your book?

Haven’t really thought this out. This question comes up a lot and since I’m never really thinking celebrity when I write my stories, it’s always a hard question to answer. I’d have to do a casting call and see what “feeling” I get from the people present. Knowing me, it wouldn’t be an all-star cast, but a cast of people who have read the story and really want to bring their A-game to the roles.
