Marcy Thomas

Hello Marcy. Welcome to Nothing But Books Blog. I first want to thank you for taking the time out of your very busy schedule to do this interview.  Speaking of your busy schedule, you are one of the authors in the best-selling book Women Who Soar, tell us a about yourself?
I am Marcy Thomas. I am an author, book reviewer and avid book reader.  In addition, I serve as a domestic violence advocate and an advocate for families that have lost loved ones to homicide. I am on the Board of Directors for H.O.L.I. (Haven of Light International), an organization that helps families affected by Domestic Violence. Professionally, I have worked as a medical coder for over 15 years.  I have been married to my husband, Alvin, for 33 years. I am a mother of 3 adult daughters, 2 nephews I raised and 2 grandchildren.

What’s the title of your chapter?
My chapter title in Women Who Soar is “Tears for my Sister.”

Tell us about your chapter?
My chapter is about my sister, Christine, and her marriage to a very abusive spouse. It also reveals the specific struggles she endured and how it affected our family.

What do you hope readers will learn/discover from reading your chapter?
I hope that the reader will understand how easy it is to get into an abusive relationship and how difficult it is to get out of such a relationship. You are a child of the most-high God!  You have a right to be treated with dignity and respect.

What inspired you to participate in this anthology?
I made a promise to my parents, who are now deceased, that I would write Christine’s story to help prevent another person from experiencing there loved one’s suffering in a abusive relationship.
What’s next for you?
I am currently working on a book about a young woman named Angela James. She is involved with a man that is very controlling.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this chapter?
Without giving the whole story away, my entire family was turned upside down on June 18, 2007. Just reading over my diary entries from that day brought back some painful memories for me. God was my strength as I recounted those events.

Why do you write? Is it something you've always done, or always wanted to do? Or is it something that you started fairly recently?
I have always had a fascinating imagination. As a teen, I was very shy. Therefore, writing was my way of expressing myself.

In three words describe your chapter?
I would describe my chapter as transparent, emotional and conversational.

How can people connect with you?
