#VIRTUALBOOKTOUR Wish Upon A Duke by J R Salisbury #booktour #giveaway Love & Devotion Book 1 #historical #romance

Wish Upon a Duke
Love & Devotion Book 1
by J R Salisbury
Genre: Historical Romance

The duke's bargain never included falling in love...

When Savannah Dawson married the second son of an English earl, she never dreamed she’d have to leave her beloved America, let alone enter the aristocracy at her son’s side. Yet when the earl dies and her husband disappears at sea, Savannah’s life is upended. Bringing her young son to England to meet her shrewish mother-in-law is only the beginning of her trials. The dowager countess has asked a duke to assist in the new earl’s education—a man whose power and position could define the course of Savannah’s life. Proud and stubborn, Savannah refuses to be intimidated. And yet neither can she resist the attraction that catches fire between them.

Reformed rakehell Gabriel Armstrong, Duke of Clevedon, has no room in his life for a woman. Especially an American commoner, the widow of his childhood friend. Beautiful and bold, Savannah nevertheless captivates his imagination. Unlike her English counterparts, she speaks her mind and demands to be heard. Something that does not endear her to the dowager countess, yet which Gabriel finds fascinating. Troubles follow her from America, however. Her husband’s business was in debt, his money invested in illicit trade, and his ship was not the first to be lost at sea.

Rumors abound that Savannah’s husband is still alive. Forces are at work to deny her son his title. And when an interloper arrives demanding repayment or revenge, the life of Savannah’s young son is in jeopardy. Savannah and Gabriel must work together to escape the shadows that could blot out the light of their future.

I've always been a creative individual. Writing is just a facet of that creativity...

My careers in public relations in and around the entertainment industry, photography, editing,  artist management, modeling and special event planning all elevated my passion for writing, not to mention gave me a treasure trove for story lines.

I write women's fiction; contemporary romance (as Jamie Salisbury) and historical romance (as JR Salisbury) which is ever evolving. I am fortunate enough that writing (and marketing of said product(s)) is my full-time job, although I always have one or two other projects going at the same time.
I now live in a suburb of Atlanta. Some of my other interests include photography, equestrianism, reading, and of course, travel.

I sincerely hope my writing will entertain, enlighten, and inspire others to pick up the pen and pursue their own dreams. I love to be contacted by readers, writers, and history buffs.

BeachBoundBooks is pleased to be coordinating a Blog Tour for the children's historical fiction book written by Cheryl Carpinello, Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend. The tour will run from July 17 - August 7, 2017.

2017-06-28

About the Book

Guinevere Dawn of Legend Cover FINAL Apple & B&N

Title: Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend Book Two
Author: Cheryl Carpinello
Publisher: Beyond Today Educator
Publication Date: June 21, 2017
Number of Pages: 121 Genre: Children's Historical Fiction

Summary: “ Think before acting,” her father always warned. But Princess Guinevere is ruled by her heart. Her betrothal to King Arthur has not changed this.

When Guinevere and Cedwyn’s latest adventure takes a dangerous turn, they find themselves embroiled in a life-or-death struggle as foretold by Merlyn’s Goddess of the Stones.

Renegades—foiled in their attempt to kidnap the princess—steal the children of Cadbury Castle to sell as slaves. Guinevere and Cedwyn vow to rescue the children, but a miscalculation puts them all in more danger. The plan quickly unravels, and Guinevere’s impassioned decisions come crashing down as Cedwyn chooses to turn his dream of becoming a knight into reality. Will their courage be strong enough to survive, or will one make the ultimate sacrifice?

5-Star Review from Readers’ Favorite Reviewed By Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers’ Favorite

Children are attracted to adventure and they don’t see the risks that adults do, refusing to accept many of the limitations and rules enforced for the sole purpose of keeping children safe. Guinevere and Cedwyn are close friends and Cedwyn, although still very young, has pledged his life to protect the princess who will one day be his queen when she marries King Arthur. Being children, they have their adventures. And one such adventure to the mysterious standing stones results in magical visions and then a race for their lives. There are people intent on kidnapping Guinevere. When she out-foxes their intentions, they take the castle children instead to be sold into slavery. Guinevere insists on chasing after the kidnappers and rescuing the children. The adventure intensifies as they risk their lives and become heroes. But are they totally successful in rescuing the children? Or do they just manage to create more problems in the process.

Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend is the sequel to Cheryl Carpinello's first Guinevere story, Guinevere: On the Eve of Legend. Both books take the fascinating Arthurian legends and create stories that will entice even the most reluctant of readers. With realistic characters and an exciting plot full of adventure, the reader will be pulled along to an unexpected conclusion, one that demands another book to complete the series. Young readers will certainly easily associate with Guinevere and Cedwyn, who, at
their young age, take risks and disobey their parents, while at the same time they reach out to help others and become heroes. A great way to entice readers, even reluctant ones, to follow the adventures found in legends.

Book One - Guinevere: On the Eve of Legend

Picture
At the dawn of Camelot, one young girl is about to take her place beside the greatest king in England’s history.... She is a mere child of twelve. But in these medieval days, this is the age when childish things must be put away and greater responsibilities accepted—all in preparation for a betrothal of marriage. For young Lady Guinevere, on the advent of her thirteenth Birth Day, the whole idea is quite unbearable. After all, what could be better than spending her youth playing with her best friend Cedwyn, roaming the grounds around the castle looking for mythical creatures or hunting rabbits? However, the wizard Merlyn—her teacher and friend—knows that destiny has a way of catching up with a person. His arrival sets in motion a series of events that will lead Guinevere to her destiny whether she is ready for it or not.

Great Sadness and Danger:With saddened and heavy hearts, they left the gruesome glen behind and rode for the castle. Samuel followed Guinevere, having chosen to ride beside Aaron. His tears dried, but the anguish not buried with his family. The grief was clearly evident in his hunched body, the anger in his clenched fists on the pony’s reins. Cedwyn worried about the boy’s state of mind.

Guinevere now led the trio, concern for the safety of the castle and the people there were marked by the hard set of her chin. Worry etched lines in her wrinkled brow and deepened her hollowed eyes. Cedwyn brought up the rear. His eyes noted every movement. Ears tuned to the echoes of the forest, head swiveling ateach movement and sound. Fear had taken permanent hold over his body—a feeling he was certain should have been as foreign tohim asit would have been to Arthur’s knights. Cold fear tightened its grip on his heart and throat. Those who would kill the gentle monks would stop at nothing. Now the little group rode in the dark, a time when all earthly creatures took on the pallor of ghosts, and hidden danger lurked all around them.

Come Next Spring Blog Tour

Publication Date: August 23, 2016
Open Road Media
eBook & Paperback; 178 Pages
ISBN: 978-1-504034234

Genre: Historical Fiction/Young Adult

It’s 1949 in Tennessee Smoky Mountain country, and everything in pre-teen Salina’s life seems suddenly different. Her sister is engaged, her brother is absorbed in caring for his sickly foal, and salina feels she has nothing in common anymore with her best friend. This novel for young people captures the insular spirit of the mountain people, the breathtaking country itself, and a girl’s struggle to accept the inevitability of change.

“An evocative first novel….the message is rounded out with lively characters, period details, and the sustained use of Salina’s childlike point of view.” – Kirkus

“. . . .A story as intricately patterned and multicolored as a practical, quilted coat—one that will warm readers, too.” -ALA Booklist Starred Review

“This finely crafted first novel engagingly depicts early adolescent feelings. All the events in the story occur between the first day of school and Christmas, in a year when Salina Harris moves beyond her concerns for popularity to an unfolding friendship with Scooter Russell, an unwelcome new-comer. . . .It is well paced, building to a dramatic climax; it creates a strong sense of time and place; and the novel includes a likable cast of characters and even a romance.” -Horn Book Magazine

“Salina is a wonderfully drawn character (who), with the help of loving parents and a teacher who challenges her to see a larger picture, realizes that change is inevitable, and that she will be able to accept it.” -School Library Journal

How did your life as a writer begin?

It began with me as a constant reader.  I'm from a military family, and we moved often.  I was always the "new kid" in school, which was painful, and so I escaped into books.  Into the library.  In "Come Next Spring," Salina is "a reader."  A lot of the story is biographical in that respect.  Actually, it is biographical in a lot of respects.

How did you come up with the idea for your current story?

The idea came to me.  It is set at a time when the U. S. Government first considered creating a country wide interstate system.  This meant purchasing land from people, including Smoky Mountain people, who did not want to sell.  It happened anyway, of course.

After writing the book I realized I had drawn on the experiences of my own family. They are Kentucky pioneers who settled in the western part of that area and built close-knit communities.  Later, to make room for KY Lake, the government bought farmland, flooded the old towns, and built new ones in their place.

This is now a thriving tourist area (The Land Between the Lakes).  I remember my mother weeping when they demolished her high school.  Her stories had a profound effect on me—which I realized in later days.

Tell us about your writing process. Do you outline, or are you more of a seat of your pants type of a writer?

No "pantser" am I, but a feverish outliner.  Really, the title of the story comes first.  That provides the focus.  I write adult historical fiction, as well, and that absolutely requires an outline, as well as a long, well fleshed-out, "pre-story."

What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?

My favorite scene is when Salina receives the letter from NYC regarding her questions to Margaret Mitchell about Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara and whether they get back together at the end of "Gone With the Wind."  When Salina reads that letter, it is a highly emotional moment for her, and it was a difficult scene to write.  I had to put myself in Salina's place and help her understand life sometimes is hard and can be painful.  I can't read that scene before audiences.  It makes me cry.  I guess that means I like it.

What is your usual writing routine?

I write every day but Sunday, except when on vacations or tending to the business of life.  Even then, the story is always on my mind, and I'm constantly jotting down lines and ideas.

What is the highest goal that you desire to meet as an author?

To touch a reader's heart.  And to give them something to take with them when they have read the last page.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list?

I would love to find time to do more genealogy research.  I have done it in the past and truly enjoy delving into the family connections and history.

I'm fortunate to live near the old KY courthouses and the small town libraries that hold so much information archives don't have.  But—it takes a lot of time.

#BEHINDTHESCENES #NEWBOOKALERT #HISTORICAL #FICTION ~~~ TAFFY by Suzette D. Harrison

Welcome to Behind the Scenes.
Today's featured author is Suzette D. Harrison

Suzette D. Harrison, a native Californian and the middle of three daughters, grew up in a home where reading was required, not requested. Her literary “career” began when her poetry appeared in a volume of creative writing published by her junior high school. While Mrs. Harrison pays homage to Gloria Naylor, Dr. Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, Langston Hughes, and Toni Morrison as forerunners who inspired her creativity, it was Alex Haley’s Roots (which she read at the age of fourteen) that unveiled the tremendous power and importance of African American literary voices. Wife of a university professor and mother of two gorgeous children, Mrs. Harrison operates a small homebased cupcake business and is currently working on her next novel…in between batches of cupcakes.

Welcome to the sleepy, all-Black southern town of Bledsoe, where Colored residents proudly declare “ain’t nothing white here ‘cept milk and teeth.” It’s 1935. A press-and-curl costs a quarter. Records play on phonographs. And a telephone is a luxury.

Meet twenty-three-year-old Taffy Bledsoe Freeman. She doesn’t need her gift of second sight to know her “mockery of a marriage” to a man twice her age is far from good. After a seven-year exile Up North, Taffy travels down-home to the small town bearing her family’s name, plotting her escape from a marriage not worth the price of a press-and-curl. She only needs to retrieve the son her husband banished to her parents’ care, before boarding a train headed for the Windy City filled with liberty and opportunity. Instead, Taffy stumbles into Roam Ellis: the man Taffy meant to marry.

Twenty-six-year-old Roam Ellis is a “broad-shouldered, hard-bodied” Pullman porter riding the rails coast-to-coast, outrunning the bitter heartbreak Taffy left behind. Now, after a seven-year absence, Roam is face-to-face with his first love. Anger ignites. Old wounds are exposed. But when pain subsides, passion rises, thrusting Taffy and Roam into a hurricane of buried secrets and lies. Reminiscent of the works of Bernice McFadden, Bertice Berry, and Andrea Smith (The Sisterhood of Blackberry Corner) this Historical Romance is bathed in southern lore and sweeping imagery. Lyrical and powerful,

Taffy is a story of restoration and redemption that you won’t soon forget!
