Blog post: Sassy Pants Makes Amends

Sassy Pants Makes Amends, is a tale for all ages; it models how to go about “fixing a friendship when you are the one who broke it.” In the first story, Sassy Pants, she went about breaking everything—rules, friendships, her mother’s heart…In this story Sassy Pants practices her apology and with Molly's moral support delivers it and then asks for forgiveness. With that accomplished she comments that apology and forgiveness were just the first part. Now she wants to do amends to help the ones she hurt trust her again. It was a lot of hard work, but worth the effort!

The Sassy Pants series is a great set for young readers. Each book comes with a code in the back to download a free audio version of the book. Burn your own CD and viola you have entertainment on the road, or read-along practice to develop reading fluency, so many uses! To say nothing of all the conversations the story evokes. There is also a free parent/teacher manual see downloadables on her website.

Recovery groups have made great use of the story. The explanation of amends is simple and straight forward; it helps many in 12 Step programs. For more information you may go to http://sassypantsco.blogspot.com

Sassy Pants Makes Amends is the second in the Sassy Pants series by Carol A. Brown. In the first book, Sassy Pants is a rude, arrogant, disobedient little pig. In Sassy Pants Makes Amends, she learns about honor and respect. Realizing how she has hurt others, she learns to apologize for her misdeeds. She also discovers that simply apologizing is not enough.

Old Clyde and Ms. Molly teach Sassy Pants that when we hurt others, we lose their trust and regaining it is not easy. Some of the wronged animals are more willing to forgive Sassy Pants, while others struggle with forgiveness. This gives Ms. Molly an opportunity to teach her lambs about how to forgive.

Although this is a story written for children, there are lessons to be learned by adults as well. One of the most difficult things in the world is apologizing to someone for real or imagined wrongs. Many adults struggle with apologies while others labor to forgive. In Sassy Pants Makes Amends, Carol A. Brown gives specific steps for each. She teaches that an apology is not followed with an excuse or a reason for the behavior. There is no effort to rationalize the anguish caused by thoughtless acts. Forgiveness is realizing that we all make mistakes and do thoughtless things to others.

Sassy Pants Makes Amends, by Carol A. Brown is a great teaching tool for children and adults. I highly recommend Sassy Pants Makes Amends. Published by Tate Publishing.
