Keys to Extraordinary Success for Ordinary People

About The Author

Nekesa Ouma-Namulu describes herself as a 'true citizen of the world,' having the privilege of calling many places home. She was born and brought up in Nairobi, the capital of that picturesque nation on Africa's eastern coast, and moved to London where marriage and career made Europe her second home for almost two decades. Her career as a Computer Networking Systems consultant, which included a year with Cisco Systems, saw her spend many happy hours in data centres all over the world, fiddling with fibre-optic cables plugged to huge data switches alight with dozens of different blinking lights. Work saw her set up camp in Mexico City, Seoul and most recently Paris, which led her to conclude, "no-one does a strike quite so thoroughly as the French." Nekesa has published a computing book, which sits happily next to others in UK libraries, as well as a children's fable. Today, Nekesa and her family split time between homes in Kenya, Spain and the UK.

5 Ways to Empower Women to Grow: Spiritually and Emotionally, by Paulette Harper #guestpost #spirituality #purpose #amreading #tips

Finding Purpose

"Life without purpose is time without meaning"
 Dr. Miles Monroe

“So many of us allow bad experiences to get the best of us and we don’t learn how to turn those experiences into stepping stones for us to grow spiritually, emotionally, financially or socially. I would be the first to agree that life can be hard and challenging however if we take a look back and begin to analyze how to use those bad experiences to help us in one area of our life, we will never look at bad experiences the same.”

Coming from Paulette Harper‘s book Completely Whole, which provides women of all ages with keys to living a life on purpose, spirit, soul and body.

Finding Purpose in Life

Learning How to Live a Happier Life

1. Accepting that sometimes the “Why” will never get answered. Handling our experience better, comes when we accept the fact that many times we won’t be able to change the outcome to what has happened. We can be resolved knowing it happened for some purpose or reason.

2. There is no easy way out. Many times we want to escape the bad experiences by not dealing with them head on, but that won’t solve anything. Stop for a moment, look at the situation and make the necessary changes that are required to be more empowered.

3. Realize that God is in control. Our lives are totally in the hands of someone who knows how all things will pan out. Trust Him in every situation, knowing that He will guide you as you look to Him for help.

4. Forgive yourself and others. In life people will hurt us. That includes family, spouses, children, and parents. As you forgive others for their trespasses, people will also forgive you.

5. Pray that God will show you what it is He is trying to teach you. Allow this opportunity to let God reveal to you what lessons are to be learned. Treat each experience as a great opportunity to grow and mature.

About The Author

She is a blogger and entrepreneur who owns Write Now Literary Virtual Book Tours. Cheryl, tell us about your book?

It’s way too common; the woman who simply exists instead of living a life that fulfills her. She is laden with guilt whenever she thinks about giving to herself, so she does what she knows best – takes care of others and neglects her own needs and desires. Those dreams she had before “life happened” are buried deep in her mind and soul. She’s living her life all over the place, but nowhere at the same time. “Have Your Cake & Eat it Too” is a sassy, easy-to-read guide will help you to be happy, successful, and satisfied. It will change the way you look at your relationships, and your career, and it will connect you to your power to change your life.

How did you come up with the idea for this book?

The topic of the book began as a seminar talk for my Permission Granted annual women’s empowerment seminar. Over the years, the topic became popular and the most requested so I decided to turn the message into a book so that I can empower more women who are tired of the status quo!

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

The difficult part of the writing the book is dedicating the time to do it. As a graphic & web designer, business coach and empowerment speaker my schedule is always tight. So, time was the toughest part. I had to set a date and plan an event around so that I could make it happen.

Why do you write?

I don’t consider myself a writer per se but a woman on assignment to empower women around the world and writing is a part of it.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

I want readers to understand that they have the power to change their own lives and not be conformed to mediocrity. Every dream that you have is possible and doable if you just activate the right ingredients and don’t give up during the process.

Who are your favorite authors?

Victoria Lowe, John Bevere, and John Maxwell

What book(s) are you reading now?

Launch by Jeff Walker

What books have most influenced your life?

• 10 Spiritual Principles of Successful Women by Victoria Lowe
• Commanding Your Life by Cindy Trimm
• Speak to It, Healing is In Your Mouth by Rodney R. Roberts
• Pursue Your Purpose & Live Your Dreams by Dr. Stacia Pierce

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

My business coach, Dr. Stacia Pierce. She wrote the forward to my book and has authored over 20 books herself.

Any advice to give to aspiring writers?

Just do it. No more excuses. Set a firm date and stick to it!

“The Flight”

“You will never see me again!” I screamed. I knew I was running out of time as we approached the airport. “I’ll die there! I’m never coming home.”

“Abby, stop. You are getting yourself all worked up and we have to go inside now.” My father parked the car in the dismal parking garage. Ignoring my residual choking on tears, he got out of the car and began to extract the suitcases, careful not to get any dirt on his jeans.
Daddy always looked sharp, one more thing I hated about myself. In the last several years I had become more of a skeleton freak show than an attractive daughter he could be proud of. My face was gaunt and haggard and wore the look of an aging smoker. My breasts were flat and my waist curve-less, like a prepubescent boy. I wore sea-foam green sweat pants with the word “SPIRIT” in block letters down my right leg. The sweats hung around my thighs like a tent missing poles, but I liked them because I felt small inside them. A sloppy white t-shirt blaring “SPIRIT” as well, topped the ensemble.

“Abby, get out of the car.”

I debated for a moment, but knew that I’d never win. The wildest of my tantrums were no match for Dad’s strength, but until now, at least in the battle of wills, I had triumphed. Two days prior my parents played their trump card.
“We’ve tried everything.” My parents had me cornered in their bedroom. Mom spoke because I listened more calmly to her. “We’ve been patient while you’ve promised over and over to try. We are really, really worried about you.”
Mom’s voice broke there. Dad turned and glared at my little sisters eavesdropping from the bedroom doorway. Two sets of chocolate brown eyes and one blue pair ducked back into the hallway. Then he shut the door and stepped forward.

“You promised to gain ten pounds in two months.” Dad’s voice was taut. The six-foot-four man that I once thought invincible slouched beneath a heavy burden. “Over a month ago, you agreed to the ultimatum that you would gain eight pounds. You’re nowhere near that. You need help and this is not a discussion. Remuda Ranch agreed to admit you, and we need to be there the day after tomorrow.” Daddy turned and left the room.

I slumped to my knees on the floor. “Please, please, please, Mom! Don’t send me away. I can’t be gone for two months. You might as well disown me. I’ll die there!”

Hers has been a life of too many responsibilities and his has been a life of too few. Could the thing that initially repelled them from each other finally be the ultimate source of attraction?

Holly Adams has two jobs in the city, two petulant teenage sisters to support, a farm with a big mortgage and a terrible secret that propels her forward. Brad Winchester has a reputation for being a spoilt playboy who has abandoned his family business but he also has a secret that has finally brought him home.

When they are forced together at work (Holly works at the cut-throat PR Consultancy that handles his family’s account Winchester Homes – “They don’t build homes, they build dreams”) a series of misunderstandings has them at odds.

Still working together they learn they have more in common than either might have imagined – common friends, family loyalty and dreams of something different. When life keeps pushing them in each other’s paths they must decide whether this is an attraction that might be worth building on after all.

Building Attraction Excerpt

Bradley Winchester dove into his red convertible BMW and discreetly followed Holly home. She was fascinating. Mesmerizing even. He’d never seen anything as erotic as that woman bent over the car hood fixing her engine and snapping her knife shut against her thigh. It was primal and capable and so completely foreign to him. He was used to women who needed help to open their champagne let alone fix their cars.
He knew from the minute he walked into the EPR boardroom today that Holly Adams did not like him. He was an hour late, but that had been a genuine mix-up. His secretary had given him the wrong time. He was normally fastidious about punctuality. However, he knew it was more than that.

Holly Adams had him pegged as a guy punching above his weight, so to speak. She saw him as a guy who was handed a job on a silver platter that he wasn’t qualified for. She was right to an extent, but she didn’t know the full story and he couldn’t tell her, even if he wanted to. Not that it had been any of her goddamned business in the first place. He had tried to smooth things over with her at the time and she had been nothing but courteous but her distrust of him was obvious.
Holly did a left-hand turn into a driveway. It was the driveway of St Anne’s School for Day Students and Boarders. Why was Holly going into an exclusive girls’ school at seven at night? He turned into the driveway and shut his lights. She had gone right so he turned left and pulled his car into a park behind a bank of trees. He got out of the car and watched Holly. She parked. She went around to the passenger side and hauled out her briefcase. He watched her head towards a doorway and it swung open…light spilled through the doorway and an imperious woman filled its frame.

“Cutting it fine aren’t you Miss Adams?”
“Nothing to worry about Sister Evangeline, I’m here now.”
The door slammed and the yard was dark. Brad looked along the bank of buildings. Brad had dated a few St Anne’s girls back when he was in high school but he’d never been to the school before and never at night.
Upstairs he could see school girls talking on a veranda. He saw Holly approach. She was backlit and her golden hair looked like a halo.

“Holly! You’re here!” One girl trilled. “I have so much to tell you!”
“OK Maddy, you will have to wait and tell me after study hall. Come on girls everyone inside. You all know the drill.”
Holly Adams worked at the school. How fascinating, Brad thought. He had so many questions.
He saw the downstairs door open again and the large woman peer out.
“Who are you? We don’t need any Peeping Tom’s around here. You’ve got two minutes to skedaddle or I’m letting the dogs out.”
Oh heck, thought Brad, and he climbed in his car and burnt rubber getting the hell away from St Anne’s.
