Ms. Starr holds an Associates of Arts in Communication; a Bachelor of Science in Business-Healthcare Management and she is also a Licensed Practical Nurse. Amelia enjoys reading and writing literary works of all genres. Her love of writing was cultivated through her life experiences. Amelia Starr’s life has been riddled with uncertainty, rejection, violence and death. Fortunately, her life has also been a series of miraculously triumphant moments. Amelia incessantly strives to shine brightly as she embraces the light God placed within to illuminate spaces others cannot. She is destined to be, A. Starr! Additionally, Amelia loves being a mother, serene walks on the beach, and meditation.

None of us can control the circumstances we are born into. However, how we deal with our circumstances and the trials we encounter is the determining factor of our triumph or the reality of looming tragedies. Amelia Isom chose the former. Her life was riddled with uncertainty, rejection, and violence/death, but her life has been a series of inconceivable triumphant moments. This memoir will take you through a whirlwind of emotions from the beginning to end. Most importantly, you will know that life is not what happens to you.... But how you MAKE LIFE happen for you!

Carol attempted to get up. However, she stumbled a few steps and then fell forward toward Bill. Instead of helping her, he backed away and watched her fall. When she hit the floor he yelled, “Trick get up!” Carol’s bloody nose dripped down onto her lips, her vision was blurred in one eye and the other eye was swollen shut. She was mercilessly battered and weak. It was impossible for her to muster up the strength to stand even with help! Bill realized Carol needed to go to hospital, and the thought of showing any remorse or concern for her angered him even more. So, Bill lugged Carol into his car like a bag of trash, and spewed obscenities at her the entire 15-minute drive. “Trick stop bleeding all over my seats, I knew I shoulda left you!” When they arrived at the hospital, Bill didn’t escort Carol inside. Instead with the same violent demeanor, he hatefully threw her out of his car! Carol stumbled inside trying not to fall, but her strength betrayed her. Her pregnant and battered body fell to the ground, while bystanders looked at her in shock and disgust… After what seemed like an unending couple of minutes, Carol was assisted by hospital staff and rushed to the maternity ward. Why did I, an innocent child, have to enter life through such a treacherous path, that seemingly led to a dead end… broke - IN - this… my life.

#VIRTUALBOOOKTOUR HARD CONVERSATIONS BOOK 1: Breadcrumbs To The Past by BJ Communicates @wnlbooktours #newbookalert #indieauthor #newrelease #urbanfiction

Write Now Literary is pleased to be organizing a two-month book tour and $50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway For Hard Conversations: Book 1: Breadcrumbs To The Past by BJ Communicates. The book tour will run Sept 6-October 29, 2021.

Genre: Urban Fiction

ISBN-978-1098380953

BJ Communicates, aka Dr. Brad Johnson, LSSBB, CSM, is a Kingdom writer, a communication practitioner, and an influential Bible teacher. Given the assignments of assisting urban believers in articulating their stories, finding resolution, and gaining the language of the Kingdom, BJ continually creates and releases inspirational media content that highlights their stories and experiences. “The Holy Spirit is constantly giving me things to write; sometimes it’s a book, sometimes it’s an article for a Christian publication, sometimes it’s something for my blog site or social media, and sometimes it’s a song for me or another recording artist, I’m just the pen in His hand,” says BJ. In addition to faith-based media creator, he is the owner of Communic8 Life Consulting, a communication consulting firm that specializes in assisting couples, families, and business teams in improving their interpersonal communication skills; and is the co-pastor of the urban cafe church Transformed City in Richmond, VA.

Sometimes it’s the conversations not had that do the most damage to the people in our lives. Hard Conversations is a collection of short stories detailing the lives of five urban people who are standing at the intersection of their past and their potential. Sensing that something is still off in the lives that they have built, each has to make the crucial decision whether to address their secrets long buried, or to continue living in the uncomfortable matrix they created. Only they can decide what their future will bring.

Our gifting often becomes our prison. I wrote this book to pull back the mask on our experience in the hopes that it compels us to confront our learned ability to white wash our pain with our talent and giftings. We are often taught that the greatest value that we bring to the world is solely present in what we do, what we earn, or how well we play. In reality our greatest value is in the stories that we can articulate to those we influence once we have reached the other side of trauma. Trauma that tried to silence our voice, trauma that caused a part of us to die in the fight, and trauma that threatened us to stay silent after our experience with it because we should just be grateful that we made it to the other side.

Q & A with Keysha Dale

You’re a successful healthcare executive, why did you decide to add author to your role?

During my Rock Bottom experience, I vowed to myself that I would help other women avoid the
mistakes I made that landed me in the situation. I also wanted to encourage women to be tenacious
and remain hopeful that at any given moment God can move you out of the Rock Bottom pit.

What do you hope readers will gain from reading Rock Bottom Success?

I hope my readers will gain truth; the good, bad and ugly about what it’s like to hit Rock Bottom; my mentors shared and exposed me to things however I really wish they had shared those details of their poor choices in the workplace.

For example, in the book I share that I didn’t find out until after I prematurely resigned from my job
that one of my mentors resigned from the same supervisor for the exact same reason as I did a few
years before me.

How did finding yourself at “Rock Bottom” propel you to success? In what ways did it make you dig deeper to see yourself and the world around you?

Wow! My rock bottom experience was the pivotal point of my life which carried over to my career. I
believed that God has so much for me that it was imperative that he prune all the things that were
not of him. This is the reason the pearls of wisdom have been incorporated into the book. A pearl is
made from the journey of being molded by an irritant and water that assist with smoothing it to a
gorgeous and elegant pearl.

If you could go back and change anything about your personal journey, what would it be?

Absolutely Nothing! Every iota of my Rock Bottom experience prepared me for my today.

How has having mentors helped you gain clarity about your career direction and overall
purpose in life?

Mentors have brought clarity by allowing me to share ideas off. I also allow them to challenge me
with the goal of identifying the next steps of my career.

How has mentoring others helped you to better understand yourself and women entering the workplace?

It’s helped me to keep learning. Mentees bring out the best in me and help me to see how much I
have matured as a businesswoman.

What is the most beneficial career advice you’ve ever received?

Never forget to assist others as others have assisted you in your professional development.

How do you balance career, family and service?

By taking care of me first; my order is God, me, and then my family. Live life and don’t let it live you.
Girlfriend time and me time is a must!

From a manager’s perspective, how can women in entry level positions gain the attention of decision makers when seeking advancement in the workplace?

By staying engaged company projects, volunteer to do various projects and trainings. Do the things
that others do not want to do. Always be willing to sharpen the saw and one day you will be the
most knowledgeable, visible, and noticed person in the workplace.

With harassment prevalent in the work environment, what advice can you offer women who
find themselves on the receiving end of a rude or insensitive coworkers attacks?

A person should stay focused on the bigger picture of why they are at the organization. Oftentimes,
rude coworkers are merely distractions. Find a safe place of coworkers, women or men, to connect
with. It’s always alright to address the rudeness by expressing how you feel. It’s not what you say but
your delivery. As it relates to harassment, always see your HR department and put it in writing to
carbon copy your HR file.

Moving forward, what’s next for you?

I have a workbook that assist those who desire to further their professional development. Also,
exploring future possibilities of having an on-line course on workbook topics.

ISBN-10: 1732488002

Genre: Women Fiction

Meet Marian

Award-Winning Author and Speaker, Marian L. Thomas, has penned five women's fiction novels to date. Her books have been seen on national television stations such as the Oprah Winfrey Network, Ovation, and the A&E Network. She has been featured in print magazines, newspapers and a guest on local, national and online radio stations. For her book, I Believe In Butterflies, Marian ranked among the top 100 Most Popular Authors in Literary Fiction on Amazon. She spent most of her teen years in Oak Park, Illinois, but now resides in a suburb of Atlanta with her husband. She enjoys a good bag of popcorn, a plate full of pasta, and a grape pop.

About The Book

The Caged Butterfly by author Marian L. Thomas is the heartrending story of the Mayfield/Taylor family spanning four generations ranging from the 1930s-1990s. While the character-driven plot touches on relevant social issues such as child abuse, racism, skin bleaching, and suicide, ultimately it is a story of love and forgiveness.

The book begins with Addie Mayfield's loving letter to her unborn child which plays a central theme throughout the plot. As the story unfolds, the reader is introduced to Addie's mother, son, and granddaughter: Millie, Timmy, and Nina. Alternating between the cities of Georgia, Chicago, and New York, and told through first-person narratives by each character, the plot follows the family's history, relationships, triumphs, and sorrows. The book emphasizes self-acceptance, forgiveness, and redemption regardless of life's hardships.

Author Interview

NBB: When did you choose writing as your career?

M: I’d like to say it was when my first book was released, however, that wasn’t the case. That moment came with the release of Blue Butterfly, my fifth book.

NBB: You are an author, speaker and blogger, how do you balance it all?

M: My schedule is pretty tight but the way I learned to balance it all, is to prioritize tasks. There’s a saying…you have to eat-the-frog first. It means that you do the toughest things first. For me, that could be writing a blog post (although, I haven’t done this one in a while), preparing for a speaking engagement or watching the sun come up, while writing a chapter for a new book.

NBB: Do you outline your stories? Do you have a process in place for researching your plots?

M: I don’t outline my stories. I’ve considered it, but don’t feel as it that type of writing method works for me. I’m more of a sit at my computer and just start tying, type of author.

As far as researching goes. I do it along the way. When I get to a part in the story that requires research, I stop and do it. I’ve even stopped to call a friend who had better insight on the subject that I was writing about.

MBB: As an author you’ve built a nice platform, what two tips would you give aspiring authors who are wanting to build their writer platforms?

M: My first tip would be to start blogging or posting short stories on sites like Reddit. This gives readers a chance to connect with your writing style.

My second would be to use paid social media ads on Facebook to drive traffic to your blog.

NBB: What is the inspiration behind the butterfly series?

M: I write for women. My stories focus on what I call the ‘caterpillars’ of life —the ugly things that bring us pain and tears. When we, as women, find the inner strength to overcome those situations, that’s when those caterpillars become something beautiful.

NBB: Tell us about the main characters in The Caged Butterfly—Addie Mayfield., Timmy Taylor and Nina Taylor.

M:  Addie Mayfield is a young southern black girl who, on one autumn night in 1949, falls for the irresistible red curls and vibrant green eyes of a young man from the other side of the railroad tracks. Neither knowing that the consequences of their love would have lasting effects.

Timmy Taylor: Timmy was known as one of the greatest white jazz pianists in New York, He never had a reason to question his identity - until truth and betrayal strike. His journey is a tale of deeply rooted sorrow, but ultimately becomes a story of love.

Nina Taylor. Nina is beautiful and talented. She inherited her father's talent, but not his white skin. Certain that's how he made it big, she dives deep into a deadly obsession.

NBB: What’s next for Marian L. Thomas?

M: I’ve got a copy of stories floating inside my head. One is a romance, the other is detective-type story. Haven’t narrowed it down yet but getting close.

NBB: What is your favorite quote?

M: It’s really a motto. I’m a firm believer that aspiring authors should Live. Laugh. Write. In that Order. In other words…Take Inspiration from life and write about it!

NBB: Where can readers find you?

M: My website is the best place. It’s www.marianLthomas.com. From there, readers can connect with me on social platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
