#VIRTUALBOOOKTOUR HARD CONVERSATIONS BOOK 1: Breadcrumbs To The Past by BJ Communicates @wnlbooktours #newbookalert #indieauthor #newrelease #urbanfiction

Write Now Literary is pleased to be organizing a two-month book tour and $50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway For Hard Conversations: Book 1: Breadcrumbs To The Past by BJ Communicates. The book tour will run Sept 6-October 29, 2021.

Genre: Urban Fiction

ISBN-978-1098380953

BJ Communicates, aka Dr. Brad Johnson, LSSBB, CSM, is a Kingdom writer, a communication practitioner, and an influential Bible teacher. Given the assignments of assisting urban believers in articulating their stories, finding resolution, and gaining the language of the Kingdom, BJ continually creates and releases inspirational media content that highlights their stories and experiences. “The Holy Spirit is constantly giving me things to write; sometimes it’s a book, sometimes it’s an article for a Christian publication, sometimes it’s something for my blog site or social media, and sometimes it’s a song for me or another recording artist, I’m just the pen in His hand,” says BJ. In addition to faith-based media creator, he is the owner of Communic8 Life Consulting, a communication consulting firm that specializes in assisting couples, families, and business teams in improving their interpersonal communication skills; and is the co-pastor of the urban cafe church Transformed City in Richmond, VA.

Sometimes it’s the conversations not had that do the most damage to the people in our lives. Hard Conversations is a collection of short stories detailing the lives of five urban people who are standing at the intersection of their past and their potential. Sensing that something is still off in the lives that they have built, each has to make the crucial decision whether to address their secrets long buried, or to continue living in the uncomfortable matrix they created. Only they can decide what their future will bring.

Our gifting often becomes our prison. I wrote this book to pull back the mask on our experience in the hopes that it compels us to confront our learned ability to white wash our pain with our talent and giftings. We are often taught that the greatest value that we bring to the world is solely present in what we do, what we earn, or how well we play. In reality our greatest value is in the stories that we can articulate to those we influence once we have reached the other side of trauma. Trauma that tried to silence our voice, trauma that caused a part of us to die in the fight, and trauma that threatened us to stay silent after our experience with it because we should just be grateful that we made it to the other side.

WELCOME TO BEHIND THE SCENES

Excerpt from

From Here To There

By

Jae Henderson & Mario D.King

“PUSH!! BREATHE! We’re almost there!” said the doctor. My OBGYN, Dr. Sales, couldn’t get here in time, so there’s some man I have never met, all in my twat guiding me and my little one. He sounded like a drill sergeant as he forcefully instructed me on how to bring life into the world at a time when all I wanted to do was die.

I was in no shape to be delivering a baby, and the love of my life was in another part of the hospital fighting for his life. And now I’m here pushing and breathing for dear life without him. I didn’t mean to upset Marcus. I just wanted to see my man, my baby daddy, the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. It didn’t help that as they rolled me out, I saw Chanel, his other baby momma, standing outside the door. I wanted to roll that wheelchair right over her foot and kick her in the shin. I knew the only person that could have told her was Jackson; that man is so conniving. He had the nerve to offer to be in the delivery room with me. No way!

I silently prayed while I pushed. Father God, please let Marcus be okay. Neither one of us has been perfect, but we are just starting to get it right. Have mercy on him. Have mercy on me.
“You’re doing just fine, Natalie . . . NOW, PUSH!!” the doctor instructed.
I bore down as hard as I could and gave a thrust to the lower half of my abdomen. I couldn’t really feel the lower half of my body thanks to the epidural, but sweat was continuously rolling off the upper half.

“Now, one more big one should do it! PUUUUUUUUUSH!” the doctor shouted.
I let out a sound that was a mixture of a grunt and a scream as I did as I was instructed. A few seconds later, he said, “Here—” then the doctor cut his sentence short.

I knew immediately that something was wrong, and I didn’t hear any crying. There should be crying . . . Shouldn’t there? I looked up at Mrs. Colbert. She hadn’t said much. I knew she was mad at me for upsetting Marcus, but at least she was there. Even in her anger, she hadn’t abandoned me in my time of need. She used her warm hands to give me reassuring touches the entire time, and now she gave me a forced smile as she wiped the sweat from my brow with a damp cloth.

I opened my mouth to ask her what was wrong, but I suddenly felt tightness in my chest, as if someone had their fist wrapped around my heart. She looked in the direction of the doctor and stopped. Her stoic smile disappeared, and her face now held great concern.
“Code Blue. She’s going into cardiac arrest!” I heard the doctor say.

“Stay with me, Natalie,” said Mrs. Colbert. She said something else after that, but it was low and garbled. The kind, old woman was standing right next to me, but she sounded far away.
Out of nowhere came a blinding bright light. Then, in the glow appeared the glorious figure of a man. I couldn’t quite recognize him, but the silhouette appeared to be that of . . . Marcus? It can’t be.

Did I just die?

Is he dead?

Lord, help!

ABOUT KATHY DOUGLASS

Kathy is a born reader who as a child always had her nose in a book. She went from reading Bobbsey Twins to romance novels. One day she stumbled upon The Shining by Stephen King and was hooked on horror. When she caught herself checking under the bed and looking in the closet for monsters, she knew it was time to put down the horror and return to romance novels.

Her return was short-lived. She started law school and soon her reading was limited to legal opinions. Then she discovered Harlequin romances. They were short enough to read in a week and she wouldn't have to search her room before she went to sleep.

When her first child was born, she became a stay at home mom. Her second child soon followed, and reading was limited to children's books.

All too soon her kids were attending pre-school. Kathy spent those hours renewing her relationship with romance novels. Soon she felt the urge to write the stories she wanted to read. In 2016, Kathy sold to Harlequin. Her first book, How to Steal the Lawman's Heart, was released in February, 2017. Since then, she has released several more books with Harlequin.

She presents a series of essays and narratives written during the four-year period after she left her thriving Western medical practice and immersed herself in the study of integrative and functional medicine. Destang-Beaubrun recalls her breakdowns, breakthroughs, fears, and faith as she navigated her way to a new way of living, learning, and loving. This collection of personal essays on bravery, trust, and faith shares one woman’s insights and life lessons as she shifted from traditional medical practice to something more.

                                                                        EXCERT

As I sat and took in the breathtaking scenery of the October Fall foliage, my heart was filled with gratitude. Attending this retreat was the fulfillment of a long held dream.
I knew that at some point we would all have to tell our life story. And I was ready to tell mine. The story that, after twenty years of practicing Family Medicine, I'd realized that I was not happy with how healthcare was being delivered and felt the burning desire to offer my patients something more to optimize their wellness by integrating health of body, mind and spirit.
As a Family Physician, I already took care of their bodies.
As a newly certified Health Coach I thought I would take care of their minds.
At this retreat, I would be taught how care for the Spirit.
Over the years, I'd listened to many a life story, held many hands and wiped away so many tears.
That night, as I sat in the midst of our group healing circle, and the meditative music began, my tears flowed freely. I cried for all the patients I'd been unable to save. Had I failed as a doctor?
I cried for all the times I had missed being present for my family. Had I failed as a wife and mother?

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

The title has been sitting around in my head for a few years. I love butterflies and always go in search of Buddha statues. One day, whilst on a family vacation, I dragged my kids into another store “just to look” at the Buddha statues on display. In a fit of frustration, my older son turned to me and send … “Look at you. You’re all about Buddha and Butterflies”
My nickname is Bubbles, so I turned to him with a smile and said “Yes. I’m all about Bubbles, Buddha and Butterflies “and then promptly decided that would make an excellent title for a book.
So once I decided to compile my essays and new pieces, I knew that it would have to be under that title.
What do you hope readers will learn/discover from reading your book?
I hope that my readers will see themselves in my stories.
I’ve told them as authentically as possible in the hope that something they read will encourage them to go after their dreams, as well as realizing that we’re all not perfect but it is up to us to take ownership of our lives. We all have the power to change our lives and to change our minds too.
What inspired you to write this book?
These stories were written at a time in my life when I’d decided to leave the comfort of my home in St. Lucia, and move to the USA to return to school. It was a difficult time, but deep down I knew it was something I had to do.
One of the ways I would process what was happening was to write out my feelings. Oftentimes, these essays would simply pour fourth and I’d find myself writing them on whatever I had on hand so as to not miss the moment. I always tried to keep pen and notepads nearby.
What’s next for you?
Believe it or not, I began writing another book a few years ago. But it seemed that this one wanted to be birthed before. I think I’ll allow myself some down time and enjoy this first book baby, but the half-written one will call me soon I’m sure.
So for the next few months, I’ll enjoy this time with this new “baby”, watching her grow and develop.
Excluding your own, name 3 books you would recommend to your friends:
 Big Magic – Elizabeth Gilbert
The Universe Has Your Back – Gabby Bernstein
The Gifts of Imperfection – Brene Brown
These have all inspired me in some ways, to go after my dreams, to become less fearful , to lean on my faith and intuition, as well as recognize there is a Higher Power guiding our lives.

Among all the books that you have read, which of these have significantly contributed to your writing style?

Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic – in which she states that our creations will come forth no matter what and it is up to us to be open to birthing them. Otherwise they may choose someone else to be birthed from.
I know that this book had been incubating for a while, and at exactly the right time, it came forth.

3 things you never leave home without?
 Hand sanitizer - what can I say? I’m a Virgo…
Essential oils – peppermint to revitalize me, or if I’ve eaten badly will soothe my tummy.
A snack – some nuts or fruit. As a Physician my day can easily get out of control. Once I have these on hand, I can take a moment to easily replenish my energy

EXCERPT

The stall-warning horn soon blared in his ear as the airspeed dropped. With the plane in this position, it could easily enter a spin. He’d read many reports of airplanes spinning into the ground, killing all on board.

It’s about to happen; keep your feet ready on the rudder pedals and your hands light on the wheel. Be ready to level out the airplane if a wing starts to drop. Rapidly, the left wing dropped below the horizon. I’m gonna lose control of this bird if I don’t do this right! He pushed the yoke forward to get the airplane’s nose well below the horizon and rolled the control wheel right to try to level the wings. It seemed like an eternity before the plane responded to his attempt but respond it did and began flying again. A whew escaped as he exhaled. His soaked shirt clung to him.

“Let’s head back to the airport,” was all Thomas said. He didn’t say a word about what had just happened. Not a good sign. All of the study, effort, and money I’ve put into this, and now to blow it on the last thing the examiner asked me to perform . . . well, it doesn’t feel right. Had he just blown his chance at getting his pilot's license?

You’ll smile, gasp, and shed some tears. In the end, you’ll find hope.
