AUTHOR INTERVIEW #WOMENWHOSOAR #ANTHOLOGY #NEWBOOKALERT #INSPIRATIONAL #NONFICTION #MEMOIR @wnlbooktours

Welcome to Nothing But Books

Today's Featured Author

Dr. Elaine Gattis

1)First, I want to thank you for taking the time out of your very busyschedule to do this interview.  Speaking of your busy schedule, you are one of the authors in the best-selling book Women Who Soar, tell us aboutyourself?
I am Dr. Elaine Gattis, a native of the San Francisco Bay Area. I am an affiliate professor of ministry at Ohio Christian University’s Morrow, Georgia satellite campus. I am also an author and an ordained minister of the Gospel, serving as the Executive Pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Georgia. Myhusband, Reverend Dr. Terrance Gattis, also serves as the Senior Pastor in the same ministry.  I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State University, East Bay, a Master of Divinity degree from the Emory University Candler School of Theology, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta.
2) What’s the title of your chapter?
The title of my chapter is “Soaring into Purpose.”
3) Tell us about your chapter?
The crux of my chapter is solidly basedon finding and embracing one’s purpose in Christ.  Everyone’s journey is different and unique, however, when we allow ourselves to be challengedbeyond our fears, insecurities, and the many setbacks we sometimes face, we will find that there is a purpose on the other side of everypain we encounter. While some people are born into what they believe to be their purpose and others discover their purposeat an early age, there are many others who decrythat they don’t know or are yetto discovertheir purpose.  I believe that this is often due to one’s inability to face the fears and giants that stand between them and their purpose, which in turn hinders their vision.  Our giants come in many forms, and minewas in the formof fear (fear of being alone and without the support of my family and friends).  Nevertheless, my faith and trust in God pushed me to take bold steps, face fears and journey to places that I would’ve otherwise never thought possible.  Before I knew it, I was doing more than taking steps. I began to soar into areas that helped me to embrace and further define my ownpurpose which impacted on my growth .  Now, I soar!
4) What do you hope readers will learn/discover from reading your chapter?
My prayer is that others will read my chapter and discover that they can soar too.  I pray that others will be empowered and encouraged to move past their biggest fears to embracetheir challenges and move toward deeperand more meaningful lives.  It is importantto know this, andone must understand that it will not be an easyride. However, in the end, the rewards significantly outweigh the challenges.  God is faithful and will never leave nor forsake those who put their trust in the Lord.
5) What inspired you to participate in this anthology?
I was inspired to participate in the Women Who Soar anthology because I knew I had a story to tell that might help someone else spread their wings.  Moreover, I thought it would be an honor to be a part of such a greatproject. I am generally a very private person, and it is not always easy to be transparent and allow the world into one’s personal space. However, the women involved in this project all have very awesome and personal stories to tell and opening myself up to be a part of this was simply another effort at spreading my wings.
6) What’s next for you?
My husband and I started a publishing company last year called Pneuma Enterprises. The sole aim of the firm is to help others through the process of getting their stories published.  We have found that there are so many aspiring writers who don’t know where to begin after writing their story and have thus garnered much interest. I am looking forward to helping others get their stories published as well. Also, I am in the process of writing another non-fiction book about associate ministry.  This next book is pretty much involved and would keep me quite busy butI hope to have it completed by the end of this year.
7) What was the most difficultaspect of writing this chapter?
I know I can tell my story better than anyone else, and so writingthis chapter was not difficult for me at all. Nevertheless, if I had to choose one aspect of difficulty, it would be choosingwhat to leave in and what to take out in order tostay within the word limitations.
8) Why do you write? Is it something you've always done or alwayswanted to do? Oris it something that you started fairly recently?
I have always written quite a lot and knewthat I was pretty good at it.  It was my writing skills that landed me in GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) as a young child.  I went to a predominately white school and was the only African American in the program atthetime.  As an adult,I journaled for several years and always wanted to write and at least get one book published.  Women Who Soar is actuallymy second published book.  My first was written and published academically as my doctoral dissertation butI wanted to write something more mainstream as well.
9) In three words describe your chapter?
Encouraging, inspiring, and motivating.
10) How can people connect with you?
I can be reached by email at elainegattis@gmail.com, on the internet at www.elainegattis.comor via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/elaine.gattis

Write Now Literary is pleased to be coordinating a blog tour for Sharon LindsayThis tour will run July 23- Aug 3, 2018.  Book your own tour here.

Genre: Biblical Fiction

The Son of God Series is five books of historical fiction that shine a compelling light on Jesus, the central figure of Christianity. In his heavenly role, he is called Yeshua and as a man he is called Jesus. In each book you will meet Yeshua/Jesus the Messiah. He is personal and approachable.

Sharon Lindsay is a woman who reads the Bible and sees the drama of the ancient stories like vivid movies rolling across her mind. She is the author of the 5-book Son of God Series, a writer who grounds her fast-paced fictionalized account of the life of Jesus in Biblical studies, historical research, and personal experience. Her own experiences, the times when heaven has supernaturally stepped into her life, allow her to write this Biblical story with the authority of someone who has come face to face with the spiritual forces of Good and Evil.

Sharon is a graduate of Washington Adventist University (formerly Columbia Union College). She is a retired teacher with 37 years of classroom experience, elementary through middle school. As a retiree, she continues to teach in the church setting and has found that both adults and teenagers who read The Son of God Series are captivated by her fresh and relatable retelling of the Gospel account. She is an active member of a Messianic Jewish Congregation.

About The Book

In Book 2, This is My Son the supernatural conflict between Good and Evil continues to focus on the boy Jesus. Satan manipulates people and events but is not allowed to directly attack during Jesus’ developmental years. Throughout this period, the Kingdom of the Evil One continually engineers the circumstances of life hoping to bring confusion, fear and rejection into the life of God’s son, the one chosen to bring salvation to humanity.

When the men of Nazareth become involved with the Galilean, Jesus watches the father of his best friend die on a cross. Through the confusion of those years, Father God and Joseph guide Jesus into his true identity, Son of Heaven and Son of Earth destined to die for humanity.

Title of Book: The Son of God Series, Book 3: Prepare the Way

About The Book

In Book 3, Prepare the Way the major characters in the Biblical narrative are called on stage: John the Baptist, the disciples, Pilate, Herod Antipas and others. The intrigue of Rome clashes with life in a land governed by the Law of Moses. John the Baptist runs afoul of the ruler of Galilee and Pilate must back down after taking a tough stance with the Sanhedrin. In the Judean wilderness Satan tries to end the mission of Jesus before his ministry begins.

In this book, Jesus moves from small-town carpenter to well-known rabbi, scandalously infamous in Jerusalem and faithfully followed in the countryside.

What readers are saying about the book...

"This YA contemporary story opens with intrigue(like its cover!) and adds suspenseful layers all the way to the tumultuous end."
- Christina Dwivedi

"This novel is not teen angst, but the excitement of young love—the madness and muddle of thinking the wrong thing, the shame and mortification of saying it. Words are analyzed before spoken, parsed and reconsidered and judged and considered again. The author’s brilliance is in hearing the thoughts of her characters so clearly." - Amazon Reviewer

"RJ Garcia’s twisting tale navigates the lives of a fringe group of teens who discover some of the most sinister secrets exist in the cracks of idyllic small-town life. Reminiscent of the mood and haunting tone of VC Andrews’ greatest novels, the plot toes a line between the eerie and the downright horrific with characters that jump off the page and into your heart." - Amazon Reviewer

#VIRTUALBOOKTOUR The Bennu Project by Tyrone Givens #NEWBOOKALERT #SCIFI @wnlbooktours

Hello! This is one of my tour stops during my two week book tour for The Bennu Project by Tyrone Givens. This virtual book tour is organized by Write Now Literary Book Tours. This tour runs November 23-December 6, 2017.  Follow the tour here.  Book your own tour here WNL

ASIN: B00VP4N6X8

ISBN-10: 1620309580

ISBN-13: 978-1620309582

Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi

About The Book

On a dangerous run to scavenge supplies from a remote excavation site in the Meza Ruins, Azubuike and his friends encounter a unique piece of technology left by their ancestors. Once exposed to the device, Azubuike’s reality is altered in ways that could unravel his mind. The team has no way of knowing the danger—or benefit—posed by this ancient technology which triggered a series of events forever changing Azubuike and his friends. Has he unlocked the secret to end the alien occupation of his world or will this device result in the extinction of his people?

The Bennu Project is a genre-defying novel with the suspense of mystery, metaphors of science fiction and accuracy of historical relevance depicting the rise-and-fall of several Nile Valley civilizations.

About The Author

Fed up with the stereotypical caricatures used to falsely portray the Black culture, Tyrone Givens is committed to creating heroes and heroines as positive images for our children. To reverse the less-than-flattering qualities that diminish self-esteem, self-worth and cultural value, this master storyteller entertains readers with science fiction plots infused with historical facts often omitted from school curriculums.

Givens, a homeschool educator whose high school-aged children are attending college, is a multi-lingual, federally-licensed airplane pilot. The Bennu Project is the culmination of his passions: empowering Black children, accurate depiction of our history and rebuilding our community.

Author Interview

Welcome Tyrone, Tell us how did your life as a writer begin?

As I homeschooled my two teenage sons, finding books with historical African facts of interest to high school students was a challenge. I created a lesson plan ranging from pre-colonial Africa to current events. After completing the plan, I put the information in a book—The Bennu Project—to share with parents who struggle with teaching certain historical topics to their children.

Tyrone, how did you come up with the idea for your current story?

I was unsettled by Gods of Egypt which released in 2016 because the indigenous people were not correctly represented in the movie. The history lesson I created covered relationships between Ancient Egypt, Greece and other nations in the region. A similar pattern of misrepresentation occurred in others movies: The Last Samurai, The Great Wall and Exodus: Gods and Kings. The blatant discrepancy compelled me to write The Bennu Project to help our children understand that they are descendants of great leaders and royalty.

Tyrone, everyone has a writing process, tell us about your writing process. Do you outline or are you more of a seat-of-your-pants type of a writer?

I am absolutely a seat-of-the-pants type of writer. Writing comes easy for me. In college, I realized I could write a term paper in the parking garage on the due date. Instead of outlines and other mechanisms, my process for writing my first two books started with imagining major points. When I had enough scenes, I wrote storylines to support them.

Tyrone, what is your favorite scene in the book? Why?

This question is difficult because I have several favorite scenes. If I had to choose one, it is the scene that introduces The Kandake. Her likeness was modeled after Njinga Mbande, a 17th-century queen of the Ndongo and Matamba Kingdoms of the Mbundu people in Angola, and one of my personal heroes. Queen Njinga Mbande was an iconic person so I transferred some of her qualities into this character.

Tyrone, who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?

I would love to have met the late Dr. Chancellor Williams. As an African-American sociologist, historian and writer, he is noted for his work on African civilizations prior to encounters with Europeans. His book, The Destruction of Black Civilization, changed my life. I encourage readers of The Bennu Project to read his book.

Please share with us Tyrone, what do you have in store next for your readers?

I plan on writing The Bennu Project as a trilogy followed by a possible prequel trilogy.

Tyrone, is there anything else you’d like to share with your readers?

The Bennu Project is a science fiction metaphor for actual historical events with relevance to pre-colonial Africa. By infusing historical-based fiction with current events, the book is a favorite among home-school teachers and inner-city educators especially for history classes. #VIRTUALBOOKTOUR #NEWBOOKALERT Adunni Dares to Dream by Taiwo I Ajao #CHILDREN #HISTORICAL #NONFICTION

Write Now Literary is pleased to announce Adunni Dares to Dream by Taiwo I Ajao, Virtual Book Tour, June 5-30, 2017.

Genre: Historical Fiction, Kids, Youth

Author/Illustrator Bio

The Dr. Ajaos are a husband-wife, doctor-nurse team who have a joint passion for health literacy, preventative healthcare, and education for at-risk groups in the Global setting. Mrs. Taiwo I Ajao, the Author, is a Registered Nurse with a Master’s in Public Health in Maternal and Child Health, while Dr. ‘Wale Ajao, the Illustrator, is an internationally-trained medical doctor with a Master's of Arts in Communications & Producing for Film and Video. Together, The DrAjaos intend to address health literacy via it’s most fundamental forms: using the arts of writing, entertainment, and communication to educate children and their parents. Adunni Dares to Dream is the beginning of a beautiful merger of not just a celebration of educational achievement, but also of Faith, Hope, Love and Miracles.

About The Book

Adunni Dares to Dream is the true tale of a poor African girl who just wanted to go to school. Although she was a part of a very hardworking family, Adunni just could not have the finer things in life, like school, books, & literacy. In her culture, girls were just expected to look pretty, get married and have children. But Adunni wished for something more.

As Adunni dares to dream , she inspires many others to dream too, including a handsome young man who couldn't stop dreaming about her! So Adunni has choices to make. Does she give in to her society's expectations? Does she chose the status quo? What are Adunni's dreams and where do her dreams take her?

Excerpt

Whenever Adunni brought up the idea of school, somehow Mama found a way to end it. Despite the fact that she was illiterate, Mama was sharp, hardworking and very resourceful with money. Mama had married young, as was common in the culture, and she started to bear children as a teenager. It was unfortunate, however, that she experienced the loss of many of those children during childbirth. Only Adunni and her sister had survived, and Adunni wondered often about what she could have done to save those who hadn't made it. Adunni was tearful as she remembered how her mother had nearly died last year during childbirth. Was every girl expected to get married and have children, even if it killed her? Adunni didn’t want to be like other girls: she wanted to be great! Adunni believed that to be great, she must be smart and be able to read, and learn great things.

How did you come with the idea for your current story?
This story was not my idea. It's a true story, written by God. I share the story, because I believe it needs to be told and that generations need to hear it.

What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?
My favorite scene in the book is when Adunni's Mom started to encourage her dream. That one jester gave her the courage to take action towards her dreams. You see, Adunni's Mom was my Grandmom, and Grandma's belief in Adunni is what propelled her forward. Likewise, Adunni (my Mom) has always been my driving force. Her words and approval has always meant the world to me, and when she tells me I can do it, I have tended to believe her and go for it.
It's just one of the

What is the highest goal that you desire to meet as an author?
The highest goal that I would like to achieve is a full & deeper merger of my role with that of my husband, my illustrator & publisher--plus literally, every other role! My highest goal is to be one mind with him and create a form where we unite to create more literary masterpieces and use our other skills in healthcare and education to impact the health, safety and well-being of children and their families. Just like Adunni, my husband, Dr. Ajao, loves to learn, and I believe that this love can be transferred to others. Also, a love of learning translates into a love for teaching.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Wait for it. The inspiration might not come when you want it, but God sends each part right on time! Each aspect of your dream is a milestone, from the title to the content to the imagery. Wait for it. He makes all things beautiful in His time!!!

How do you spend your free time? Do you have a favorite place to go and unwind?
We love a variety of wholesome music. Unwinding is likely a free evening to clean & cook to good music.

What do you have in store next for your readers?

A lot of folks are enamored by the Mike character. I'm going to go deeper to reveal his character, his thought processes and his unique wisdom.

Describe your book in three words?
A Pleasant Surprise.
A Breathe of Fresh Air
