AUTHOR INTERVIEW #WOMENWHOSOAR #ANTHOLOGY #NEWBOOKALERT #INSPIRATIONAL #NONFICTION #MEMOIR @wnlbooktours

Welcome to Nothing But Books

Today's Featured Author

Dr. Elaine Gattis

1)First, I want to thank you for taking the time out of your very busyschedule to do this interview.  Speaking of your busy schedule, you are one of the authors in the best-selling book Women Who Soar, tell us aboutyourself?
I am Dr. Elaine Gattis, a native of the San Francisco Bay Area. I am an affiliate professor of ministry at Ohio Christian University’s Morrow, Georgia satellite campus. I am also an author and an ordained minister of the Gospel, serving as the Executive Pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Georgia. Myhusband, Reverend Dr. Terrance Gattis, also serves as the Senior Pastor in the same ministry.  I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State University, East Bay, a Master of Divinity degree from the Emory University Candler School of Theology, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta.
2) What’s the title of your chapter?
The title of my chapter is “Soaring into Purpose.”
3) Tell us about your chapter?
The crux of my chapter is solidly basedon finding and embracing one’s purpose in Christ.  Everyone’s journey is different and unique, however, when we allow ourselves to be challengedbeyond our fears, insecurities, and the many setbacks we sometimes face, we will find that there is a purpose on the other side of everypain we encounter. While some people are born into what they believe to be their purpose and others discover their purposeat an early age, there are many others who decrythat they don’t know or are yetto discovertheir purpose.  I believe that this is often due to one’s inability to face the fears and giants that stand between them and their purpose, which in turn hinders their vision.  Our giants come in many forms, and minewas in the formof fear (fear of being alone and without the support of my family and friends).  Nevertheless, my faith and trust in God pushed me to take bold steps, face fears and journey to places that I would’ve otherwise never thought possible.  Before I knew it, I was doing more than taking steps. I began to soar into areas that helped me to embrace and further define my ownpurpose which impacted on my growth .  Now, I soar!
4) What do you hope readers will learn/discover from reading your chapter?
My prayer is that others will read my chapter and discover that they can soar too.  I pray that others will be empowered and encouraged to move past their biggest fears to embracetheir challenges and move toward deeperand more meaningful lives.  It is importantto know this, andone must understand that it will not be an easyride. However, in the end, the rewards significantly outweigh the challenges.  God is faithful and will never leave nor forsake those who put their trust in the Lord.
5) What inspired you to participate in this anthology?
I was inspired to participate in the Women Who Soar anthology because I knew I had a story to tell that might help someone else spread their wings.  Moreover, I thought it would be an honor to be a part of such a greatproject. I am generally a very private person, and it is not always easy to be transparent and allow the world into one’s personal space. However, the women involved in this project all have very awesome and personal stories to tell and opening myself up to be a part of this was simply another effort at spreading my wings.
6) What’s next for you?
My husband and I started a publishing company last year called Pneuma Enterprises. The sole aim of the firm is to help others through the process of getting their stories published.  We have found that there are so many aspiring writers who don’t know where to begin after writing their story and have thus garnered much interest. I am looking forward to helping others get their stories published as well. Also, I am in the process of writing another non-fiction book about associate ministry.  This next book is pretty much involved and would keep me quite busy butI hope to have it completed by the end of this year.
7) What was the most difficultaspect of writing this chapter?
I know I can tell my story better than anyone else, and so writingthis chapter was not difficult for me at all. Nevertheless, if I had to choose one aspect of difficulty, it would be choosingwhat to leave in and what to take out in order tostay within the word limitations.
8) Why do you write? Is it something you've always done or alwayswanted to do? Oris it something that you started fairly recently?
I have always written quite a lot and knewthat I was pretty good at it.  It was my writing skills that landed me in GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) as a young child.  I went to a predominately white school and was the only African American in the program atthetime.  As an adult,I journaled for several years and always wanted to write and at least get one book published.  Women Who Soar is actuallymy second published book.  My first was written and published academically as my doctoral dissertation butI wanted to write something more mainstream as well.
9) In three words describe your chapter?
Encouraging, inspiring, and motivating.
10) How can people connect with you?
I can be reached by email at elainegattis@gmail.com, on the internet at www.elainegattis.comor via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/elaine.gattis

What readers are saying about the book...

"This YA contemporary story opens with intrigue(like its cover!) and adds suspenseful layers all the way to the tumultuous end."
- Christina Dwivedi

"This novel is not teen angst, but the excitement of young love—the madness and muddle of thinking the wrong thing, the shame and mortification of saying it. Words are analyzed before spoken, parsed and reconsidered and judged and considered again. The author’s brilliance is in hearing the thoughts of her characters so clearly." - Amazon Reviewer

"RJ Garcia’s twisting tale navigates the lives of a fringe group of teens who discover some of the most sinister secrets exist in the cracks of idyllic small-town life. Reminiscent of the mood and haunting tone of VC Andrews’ greatest novels, the plot toes a line between the eerie and the downright horrific with characters that jump off the page and into your heart." - Amazon Reviewer

#BEHINDTHESCENES #NEWBOOKALERT #CHRISTIAN #ROMANCE #SUSPENSE

Welcome to Behind The Scenes

Todays featured author is

Becca Hart

Two years after a violent break-in left Elizabeth Seymour widowed and with blood on her hands, she’s finally starting over in the little town of Avalon, Ohio, with her daughter, Haley. She has the house of her dreams, a good church, and friends she can rely on. Everything seems to be falling into place—until she receives a threatening note from Veronica Sadowsky, the sister of the man Elizabeth shot, the same woman who tried to ruin her life once before. This time, though, Veronica won’t stop until she gets revenge.

When Elizabeth's home goes up in flames, she turns to family friend, Doctor Gilbert Callahan, a widowed father of three. He invites her and Haley to stay with his family. As Veronica draws Elizabeth into a game of increasing stakes, she and Gilbert only grow closer, learning to trust and rely on one another. But Elizabeth’s presence in Gilbert’s home endangers his family and creates tension with his oldest son. Preserving peace in the house is hard enough, but when Veronica comes after Haley, Elizabeth will risk everything—including her life—to get her child back.

Why do you write?

I love it; I can't not write. I began writing seriously at fifteen when I felt God's calling on my life to become an author. He guides this endeavor as much as He guides every endeavor I embark on, and I write to bring Him glory.

Are Elizabeth and Gilbert based on anyone in real life?

Yes. Elizabeth is a combination of me and my mom with a sense of humor more like one of my best friends, Jenelle. Gilbert is drawn mainly from my husband with a little of my dad thrown in.

What was the inspiration behind the book (why did you write it)?

The novel that inspired it was Sophie's Heart, a Christian romance by Lori Wick. Though that novel isn't suspense, it does tell a moving story of a woman and man trying to put their lives back on track with God's help and falling in love in the midst of trial, and that's essentially what my novel is about with some suspense. Against All Odds kind of demanded to be written; I worked on it for a solid ten years, trying to get it right, before I ever submitted it to Anaiah Press. I love the characters, and I genuinely wanted to tell their story.

Who (or what) is your greatest encourager when you write?
Mainly, my husband. My daughter encourages me quite a bit too, tells me she's proud of me.

What genre is your book?

Christian romantic suspense

Any tips for upcoming authors?

Persevere, read a lot, study the craft, and when you submit (your best draft) to a publisher or agent, follow their guidelines to the letter and make it as professional as humanly possible. And do it because you love it--there's not a lot of money in art of any kind, unfortunately, so go ahead and dream big but don't expect to make a living out of it.

How can readers connect with you?

Several ways. My website/blog is at https://beccahartauthor.wixsite.com/website, my email is beccahart.author@gmail.com, on Twitter @BeccaHart16, and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/beccahartauthor.

About the Book

Michael “Magic” Arrington’s sudden fame and startling climb up the music charts skyrocketed him into the world of Hollywood glitz and glamour. While all was exciting and wonderful at the beginning, the shady undertakings of the music business caused his life to take a downward spiral, ultimately separating him from his family and his hold on reality. Then he met Maya.

Maya Gervais has completely distanced herself from her past, even going as far as changing her identity to protect her from the one man who wants her dead. She is a civic-minded lawyer who champions for clients who are victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. So trusting someone enough to fall in love was never a consideration, especially since it could cost her much more than she was willing to give.

After the two have a chance meeting at a concert, a daring escape leads to an exploration of pain and pleasure that sets them both on the path to healing and an into an unlikely romance. However, the path to blissful happiness is never an easy one, as they both have their own demons to confront, including Michael’s jealous manager and Maya’s reluctance to deal with things she would rather forget.

Welcome to Behind The Scenes

Angelia Vernon Menchan

HOW BEING BROKEN SAVED ME

We all have stories to tell and mine are manifold. We all have histories and mine will be told.

I was born to a thirty-year-old single mother for a man who wasn’t interested in being my father. How did that shape me?

There were times when we were broke and the lights were off and mama cooked the noodles on a heater, how did that shape me?

I saw my mom hit by her man until her face was disfigured and he hit me when I tried to help her -and still she stayed. How did that shape me?

I was touched inappropriately as a child under the age of seven by a man my family loved and who was my godfather. How did that shape me?

Well, I am going to tell you and let you decide for yourselves…

This is my story and others are only mentioned to show how being broken saved me. I hear many stories of people who are unable to get past being black, poor, and fatherless, molested, maligned, ignored or abused. I experienced all of these things and I stand whole and able to share. It wasn’t easy and there were times when I was as bitter as quinine, but I triumphed.

This is something I wavered back and forth about doing for many years; however, in my desire to protect people, I didn’t. For whatever reason or reasons, I am past that and am no longer ashamed of whence I came or how I overcame.

My intent is not to judge or malign but to tell my truth as it happened, and in doing so, I pray that God’s will is done.
