#TUESDAYTEASER #INDIE Secret Places Revealed ~~~ #CHRISTIAN #FICTION #ROMANCE @pauletteharper

Welcome to Nothing But Books.

Today is #TEASERTUESDAY.

I'm posting a little teaser from Secret Places Revealed.

Simone was extremely busy over the next two weeks. She kept a running list of things to do. At times, she felt overwhelmed, but realized more than ever moving home was the best decision. While she was in California, Kendra had gotten boxes for her and placed them in her apartment. Her next task was to pack and ship her belongings. Since she was going to keep her apartment, her packing was going to be selective—the Black art and her rare pieces would definitely be shipped to California.
She surveyed her apartment and walked over to her bookcase, where her pictures of Joshua were. She lifted the heart-shaped frame and traced her finger across the picture. No doubt she missed him. He would forever be sketched in her memory, but the woman she had become because of her pain, wasn’t the woman she wanted to remain. She remembered the person she used to be—cheerful and enthusiastic. She was ready. Life was awaiting her return.
Simone closed her eyes and inhaled. She drew a sharp breath and shook her head to clear her thoughts. She had expected to see Joshua’s face in her mind, picture herself in his arms. The way they used to be.
To her surprise, it wasn’t Joshua’s face at all that she saw when she closed her eyes. Aaron Blackman’s milk chocolate skin, seductive brown eyes, and intoxicating cologne were indelibly etched upon her mind.

Secret Places Revealed

@pauletteharper

A broken man, a woman on the run, a love that won’t be denied

Single—and very content--real estate developer Aaron Blackman is determined not to be in another relationship. He’s experienced enough drama to last a lifetime. The only thing garnering his attention now is his growing business. And he plans to keep it that way. Then Simone Herron waltzes into his life, beautiful and confident. Fighting to keep his promise to himself—to remain single-- he soon discovers that when it comes to love, some promises must be broken.

After losing her fiancé in an untimely death, Simone Herron relocates. She desperately needs to put the past behind her and start a new chapter in her life. While love is the farthest thing from her mind, she experiences an attraction to the handsome Aaron Blackman that frightens her. She's built a wall around her heart, but can she find the strength and courage she needs to welcome love again? To do so, she must conquer her fears and allow God to put all of her broken pieces back to together.

Simone Herron wanted to escape from the pain, and from life. At this time of the year, she always felt utterly lonely. Simone had family and friends, but it wasn’t the same. This was year number five without Joshua. As if she weren’t already miserable, the holiday season had arrived, with all of its cheery fanfare. She wished she could skip over November and December and head straight into January.
Pensive, Simone stared out her fifth floor Park Avenue office window in the center of Manhattan, New York—the city that never slept. Below her, hordes of people bustled to and fro, arms laden with shopping bags. Tourists gawked at the beautiful and spectacular views from Times Square to Central Park. Who wouldn’t love it? But her heart was no longer enraptured by its beauty; the Big Apple wasn’t the same anymore.
Simone turned away from the window. Even the business of the city and all it had to offer could no longer mask her restlessness. Something was missing. Could a move be the answer to her restlessness? It would keep her distracted and her mind off her personal life.
As a paralegal for a prestigious law firm, Armstrong and Armstrong, she worked with some of the most gifted and intelligent lawyers. Sitting in a leather chair, she mindlessly shuffled the papers. For the past few years, she’d spent her Thanksgivings volunteering for the dinner drive at Sheppard’s Gate, a women’s shelter. Christmas, was spent singing carols with her church at Faith Bible Center. When had her life fallen into this monotonous rut?
Maybe it was the fact that she’d had to bury her fiancĂ© a few months before their marriage…but that was five years ago. Could she still be mourning the loss after five years? Did a piece of her die with Joshua? She should have been enjoying life.
Her life was like a puzzle, parts of it missing and scrambled. Joshua was gone and she was still alive trying to remember how to put one foot in front of the other.
People told her time would heal her wounds and it would get easier day by day. And they were right—some days. People also told her never to question God, but those that knew Simone knew her to be inquisitive. There were days she felt she had moved on and there were days when the feelings in her heart and the dreams of him were as real as the love they’d once shared.
She couldn’t understand why God had taken the only man she’d ever truly loved. Joshua was her soul mate, her friend, the love of her life, her future children’s father. The more she got to know him, the more she realized that meeting him had been something divine. He felt the same. They’d met while attending college in Manhattan. There was a connection between them the first time their eyes met.
She spent time thinking about what their children might have looked like. Would they have had his dark eyes and curly black hair, or maybe brown eyes like hers? The idea of not having a family hurt her to the core. Her parents were married for decades before her father suddenly died from a heart attack. For now, the dream of falling in love and having a family was tucked away somewhere in the back of her mind, preserved in the hope of a second chance.
Simone wasn’t sure she believed there was such a thing as getting back to a normal life. She accepted what life had dealt her and was allowing it to bring her to a place of surrender. She learned to accept that when life brought pain, God would give her the strength to go through it.
Simone became teary-eyed as questions swirled around in her head. Why, with all of her great accomplishments, did she still feel like there was a void in her life? She needed a change. A fresh new beginning would do her wonders. A move would make her feel differently.
She scanned her office. Her eyes drew to the plaques on the wall, awards she had received from her boss. Then she focused on the plaque on her desk, a gift from her pastor. Her favorite scripture was engraved, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose—Romans 8:28, KJV.”
She knew God was in control, but sometimes, it was more difficult to accept when His plan superseded her own. She’d heard all the sermons. She was in all the prayer lines. She had plenty of oil poured on her head. But the pain, at times, remained unbearable. She was resilient, but felt weak, as though she hadn’t slept in months. Externally, Simone had it altogether, yet she felt detached. She was a fighter at the end of her fight.

Four Friends, One Secret and The Weekend That Changed Their Destiny
Candace Walker, Kaylan Smith, Jordan Tate, and Tiffany Thomas have their share of sorrows, but neither of them realizes how deep the sorrow goes. What happens when they agree to meet for a weekend of relaxation in beautiful Napa County? Which one will leave the same or worse?
For Candace Walker, life has left her battered and bruised. Kaylan Smith has struggled with prejudice from her in-laws. After fifteen years of marriage, bitterness is trying to raise its ugly head for Jordan Tate, whose husband wants to call it quits. And for Tiffany Thomas, dealing with rejection has never been one of her greatest feats.
Although they have been friends for years, they thought they knew each other well. But will a secret destroy their relationship and bring the sisterhood to a complete halt? Will they be able to forgive and allow God to mend that which might be torn?

“Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you for blessing us with this weekend. Thank you for Kaylan, who opened her home like she has. Bless the food, and allow it to bring nourishment to our bodies. We rebuke the calories and the fat that this weekend will leave on our hips. In Jesus’ name. Amen.” After they chuckled, they said, “Amen” in unison.
For the next hour or so, they did not raise their heads; nor did they say a word. They feasted slowly, savoring all the flavors, herbs, and spices from the seafood and noodles. Tonight was not the night to have manners, not with crab and tiger prawns. They licked lips and fingers, and smacked on the food the entire time.
After savoring over tonight’s meal, the caterers brought them each a warm towel for their hands and mouth. The cheese cake would have to wait until later; they were too stuffed to even consider taking a small slice. But a cup of flavored coffee seemed to hit the spot.
“Jordan, are you okay?” Kaylan peered at her. “Is something bothering you? I can tell you are in another place and time. That’s what this weekend is for, so we could bond, get free, and allow God to heal us.”
Tiffany moved her chair closer, and looked Jordan directly in the eyes.  “I’m sure we got a whole lot to talk about this weekend.” Tiffany continued to emphasize her point. “These men, I just don’t know about them. Some of them don’t want to commit, some of them want to sleep around, and some of them don’t know when they have a good woman.” It appeared that Tiffany wanted to continue her rant, but the look Jordan gave her indicated that it was time to move on. “Oops, my bad. Sorry, Kaylan, you were talking to Jordan, huh?”
The room fell silent. Jordan nodded, but didn’t smile.  “Something is, but I’ll wait till later to talk about it. I don’t want to spoil our lunch,” she said sadly. Kaylan saw the worry in Jordan’s eyes, as well as her effort to try and control her emotions.
The look of shock was evident on Kaylan’s face. Those words pierced her sharply as though a knife had been thrust in her chest. What in the world was Tiffany talking about when she said ‘Men sleeping around.’ Whose husband was she referring to? Considering there are only two married women at the retreat, she is either talking about Bryan or Eric. And I know she ain’t talking about my husband, Kaylan pondered.
Kaylan took a sip of coffee before she spoke. “Now Tiffany done got me wondering what she’s talking about.” She stared at Jordan and reached for her hand. “Jordan, when you’re ready, we are all ears.” Out of the corner of her eye, she took a glimpse at Candace, who was squirming in her seat.

Kaylan leaned back in her chair and looked back and forth at her three friends. Friends since high school, but she wondered did she really know them like she thought. It was quite obvious that Tiffany knew something about somebody’s husband, Jordan was going through a major test, and Candace was uncomfortable, but why? She said a silent prayer: “Lord, please don’t let nothing jump off up in here.”

Finding the Purpose of Life

5 Ways to Grow to Empower Women

“So many of us allow bad experiences to get the best of us and we don’t learn how to turn those experiences into stepping stones for us to grow spiritually, emotionally, financially or socially.  I would be the first to agree that life can be hard and challenging however if we take a look back and begin to analyze how to use those bad experiences to help us in one area of our life, we will never look at bad experiences the same.”

Coming from Paulette Harper‘s new book Completely Whole, provides women of all ages with keys to living a life on purpose spirit, soul and body.

Here are her five suggestions on learning how to live a happier life.

1. Accepting that sometimes the “Why” will never get answered.  When we can accept that many times we won’t be able to change the outcome and accept what has happened.  Realized that it happened for a purpose and rest in that, we are better prepared to handle all experiences.

2. There is no easy way out. Many times we want to escape the bad experiences by not dealing with them head on, but that won’t solve anything. Stop for a moment, look at the situation and make the necessary changes that are required to be more empowered.

3. Realize that God is in control. Our lives are totally in the hands of someone who knows how all things will pan out. Trust Him in every situation, knowing that He will guide you as you look to Him for help.

4. Forgive yourself and others.  In life people will hurt us. That includes family, spouses, children, and parents.  As you forgive others for their trespasses, people will also forgive you.

5. Pray that God will show you what it is He is trying to teach you.  Allow this opportunity to let God reveal to you what lessons are to be learned. Treat each experience as a great opportunity to grow and mature.

Let It Go

Book Except

The dictionary defines “forgiveness” as “a willingness to pardon; to give up resentment against; to stop being angry with”. How can a loving God forgive us of the many transgressions and offenses we have committed, not only to Him, our Creator, but to one another? Forgiveness is the act of one’s will; it is the power of choosing. God chooses, and by an act of His will, decides to forgive all those who would accept His goodness, kindness, and mercy. He does it without reluctance and without hesitation. He doesn’t give a second thought whether He will forgive you or not. Forgiveness is, however, conditional. What God requires from us is to admit our wrongdoing. Selah.

“I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden I said, I will confess my transgressions to the LORD, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin” (Psalms 32:5 NKJV).

I don’t know about you, but if God would “showcase” (I’m talking about a full color, feature length film!) my sin, my wrong-doing, things I’ve said wrong, and people I’ve hurt, it would not be a pretty sight. What about your life story? Would the box office tickets be sold out?

Confessing our wrong puts the responsibility of the error squarely on us. We don’t always like to admit when we are wrong because pride can harden our heart. But when we accept that we have transgressed, and we humbly come before a loving God, He will never turn away from us. It’s when we refuse to acknowledge and break clean with our sin, that God’s hands are tied. He cannot intervene on our behalf.

The forgiveness that God offers is powerful enough to snatch you out of hell. It has the ability to right a wrong, and it removes condemnation, disgrace, humiliation and shame. Forgiveness purifies. His act of forgiving turns His resentment away from you the one who actually deserves punishment, and places it on Jesus Christ the One who paid the price for your forgiveness— past, present, and future.
God will cover your sins and not expose you before people. If you have a humble heart. Exposure of our sins comes after our repeated rejection of His mercy. Time after time, He knocks on the door of our heart, beckoning us to repent; yet, we often reject His invitation.

Our natural minds cannot begin to comprehend or fathom the forgiveness of God because we are people, who, by nature, hold grudges and bitterness for long periods of time. It’s extremely easy for us to justify how we feel about someone that offended or hurt us, and react because of our wounds, but our Creator is the perfect example of one who teaches us how to forgive.
